26-28 May 2018: District Camp - Celebrate Spires

We had a fantastic weekend at the Celebrate Spires District Camp, celebrating 20 years of Oxford Spires Scout District. The weather was mostly warm and sunny for this camp at Youlbury, attended by more than 500 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

The camp began on Friday evening with a disco and a number of other activities including a penalty shoot-out, crafts, board games, parachute games, circus skills and a photo hunt. There were then hot dogs for everyone before returning to camp.

There was an opening ceremony in The Dell on Saturday morning, followed by a full day of activities, including Abseiling, archery, bouncy castles, climbing, face painting, friendship bracelets, Indian dancing, laser tag, Oxford United football coaching, pioneering, rope making, sensory trail, shelter building, tomahawk throwing and zip line.

On Saturday evening the whole camp came together for a camp fire in The Dell, followed by evening activities and a movie. The Cubs then had an exciting night of thunderstorms - which most of them slept straight through!

Activities continued on Sunday morning, while adults got the tents down and packed away. Over the course of the weekend everyone signed the giant birthday card and the camp finished with a great big picnic party on the Top Field, including party bags, hats and blowers for everyone. There was also an amazing cake, a mosaic made up of around 800 squares of cakes in the design of the Oxford Spires District Badge.

Thank you to all the leaders and parents who attended camp and allowed the Cubs to take part!
