We had a very Christmassy time at our Pack sleepover in December. This year we decided to do it a bit differently, going to the Stansfeld Centre in Headington rather than staying at the Scout hut. After finding their bunks and splitting into their teams (Santas, Crackers, Sprouts, Elves, Reindeers and Snowballs) we started the weekend with a Christmas Post wide game. Thirty minutes of running around – and quite a bit of mud – later they were ready for their lunches.

After eating we did a series of festive bases: making gingerbread, writing poems, Christmas quizzes, stockings and cards, decorations and an assault course while wearing a Santa hat. We then had a competition to see who could make the longest paper chain (which we used to decorate the dining room) before creating some beautiful Christmas characters and making our own Christmas Promise tree.

Dinner was a candlelit Christmas roast (thank you to our expert chefs) and several Cubs declared it to be even more delicious than what they get at home. Feeling well fed, they got into their pyjamas, collected their pillows and headed to the recreation room to watch Santa Claus: The Movie, with a popcorn break in the middle.

The Cubs were wide awake by 7am on Sunday morning and after getting packed up and eating breakfast it was back to the recreation room where the gifts were waiting. After announcing the fastest Cub (Raia) and the best poet (Isaac), Father Christmas showed up to distribute the stockings, cards and presents (which Santa’s little helpers had put together the night before).

We had time for one more game (using toilet paper to turn a Cub into a snowman) before the closing ceremony. We had lots of Creative Challenges to award, as well as plenty of Nights Away badges, and the Elves won the points competition, each receiving a book and a pack of sweets.

We were all worn out by the end, but still managed to go off and bag pack at Sainsbury’s for the afternoon!
