12 October 2013: District Swimming Gala

On Saturday 12 October around 90 Cubs Scouts from the District participated in the first ever Oxford Spires Cub Scout Swimming Gala. We hired Temple Cowley Pools for the afternoon and had a wonderful time in the water. Three teams from our Pack joined with eleven further teams from nine other Packs in the District.

The Cubs participated in nine events (50m and 25m versions of backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, a 100m team medley, and 10m and 20m versions of a wading race for the non-swimmers). Each event consisted of two races with each Cub being timed and the times being used to calculate points. The points were then added up to get overall placings.

The 43rd Oxford B team finished in first place with 114 points, 22nd Oxford Keego were second with 91 points and Thame Raksha C were third with 79 points. Our Red and White teams finished in joint fifth place, with 75 point each, and our Blue team finished in 13th place with 45 points.

Our Cubs’ individual times/placings were as follows:
  • 50m breaststroke: Charlie – 1:09.6 (3rd) | Samanyu – 1:29.5 (10th) | Olivia – 1:12.3 (4th)
