Challenge Report
We started this activity with a presentation about Michaelangelo and the Sistine Chapel. We asked whether they had heard of Michaelangelo and several of them knew that he was one of the Ninja Turtles. They could also name the other three - Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello. We then asked if any of them knew where these names originally came from and one very smart Cub knew that they were Renaissance painters. We talked a bit about what Renaissance meant and them we found out about Michaelangelo's life and the work that he did on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. We then decided it was time to have a go at painting upside down! We put on our aprons and in small groups agreed on a story that we would like to illustrate (as Michaelangelo's paintings were all based on stories). First we sketched out our stories (upside down of course) and then the messy bit began ... on balance we think that there was a little more paint on the paper than on the Cubs but it's a close call! After we had finished our paintings we left them to dry and then stuck them up so that the parents could see them when they came to collect the Cubs.
